  • In April 2008, former President Bill Clinton visited Jasper on a campaign swing for his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton, a Democratic presidential hopeful nominee. This is the first time that a former President has visited Dubois County.
  • In 2007, the Huntingburg Daffodil Stroll was recognized as an official Midwest Travel Treasure by AAA Midwest Traveler magazine.
  • In 2007, Ferdinand Christkindlmarkt was recognized as an official Midwest Travel Treasure by AAA Midwest Traveler magazine.
  • On Thanksgiving 2007, two turkeys born and raised at Ten Star Ranch in Dubois County were flown to the White House to receive the annual presidential pardon by President George W. Bush.   • Sister Carla Mitchell, the first Benedictine Sister at Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, celebrated 85 years of being a nun in 2007. At 103 years old, she has had more than 40 poems published in the International Library of Poets, has written a 125-year history of the Monastery, appeared on ABCs “Nightline” talking about changes in religious life, and played a grandma in a Wendy’s commercial. Sister Carla is likely the first Benedictine sister in the United States to reach this anniversary of profession.
  • Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center won the 2007 Select Practice Quality award, given to only 49 of more than 4,700 eligible hospitals. The award, which was not applied for, is based on superior performance in the care of patients.
  • Huntingburg Memorial Gym is the 19th largest high school gym in the nation.
  • Gaslight Pizza in Huntingburg is ranked in the "Top 6 Best Pizzas in Indiana" according to Everybody Loves Pizza by Penny Pollack and Jeff Ruby.

  • Scott Rolen, third baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays, is from Jasper.
  • Jasper resident Bill Schroeder received an artificial heart in 1984. The second implant patient, he lived 620 days following surgery, making him the world’s longest heart-implant survivor.
  • Jasper Bakery is known for still making everything fresh from scratch and is the first site known to have a telephone in Jasper.
