This event allows participants to design and create a floating vessel of corrugated cardboard using engineering genius, artistic flair (or perhaps a combination of the two), and with human power, compete in multiple races and finish with the crew still inside.Awards are given for the following categories: First Place Finish (Corporate)First Place Finish (General Entry)The Most Spectacular SinkingThe Engineering SpectacleThe Best Theme (includes boat and crew)The Artistic MasterpieceThe Spirit AwardThe Best Dressed Crew
All boats must be made of normal, regular, ordinary, everyday corrugated cardboard. Cardboard manufactured for shipping (waxed, weather sealed, rolled, pressed, reinforced, etc) is not allowed.
Any one-part glue is allowed. Two part or epoxies, tar-based substances, two-part varnishes, berglass resin, epoxy glue, or similar substances are not permitted. No two-part substances may be used.
Duct tape may be used over the seams ONLY. Please do not cover your boat with tape. It adds too much weight and slows you down.
Creativity is encouraged. Kayaks, barges, pirate ships, riverboats, rafts, giant candy, cars, trucks, airplanes, space shuttles, aircraft carriers, dragons, sea monsters, sharks, dolphins, sea turtles and other marine animals and many other themes are encouraged. Since this is a family event, any theme deemed inappropriate for our younger audience members by judges or starters are subject to disqualification with no refund. So, please use common sense when developing your winning design!
Oars may be of material other than cardboard.Your boat must be free of sharp edges, pointy objects or anything else that could cause injuries. The boat's passenger area must not be permanently enclosed above the occupants' shoulders. Each person must be visible while in the boat. All passengers must wear a life jacket and shoes (no flip-flops).
Boats may not be over 20 feet in length.
Please see Registration Form for complete rules. A completed registration form and payment must be recieved before race start time on the day of the race.
